Move from stuck to healed.
James Willhite
James Willhite has been helping others in and through their healing journey since 2012. As an experiential therapist, coach, and consultant, his unique balance of curiosity and deep wisdom creates a space for those dealing with trauma, abuse, betrayal, depression, anxiety, and addiction to feel a gentle safety in individual and group workshops. James leads two nonprofit organizations in which thousands of individuals have experienced life-changing healing of some of their deepest wounds.
James loves spending time with his wife, Kristy and with his 4 children. He loves nature, indie music, trying new foods, and documentaries. James firmly believes that as we work to remove the obstacles and barriers of trauma, our true and divine identity will be uncovered at our core. It is then that we can become who we’ve longed to become and live out the lives we deserve.
How May I Help You?
Let's work together to create a roadmap for growth, healing, and lasting change.
Addiction
Addiction is not just about ending a behavior but changing our lives. Addiction is a way to survive and manage life. With intervention you can move from trying to manage behavior to living a full and free life.
Depression
Depression can be debilitating and life-sucking. I know what it is like to have a life of color turned to grey. I utilize experiential therapy methods, CBT, and SE in combination to bring color back into life.
Trauma
Trauma hijacks our ability to form meaningful connections, prioritizing protection over bonding. Healing allows us to shed these patterns and build lasting relationships.
My Philosophy
The counseling world is shifting. The latest studies are proving that effective counseling goes beyond just talk therapy: it includes attention to both the mind and the body. I utilize experiential modalities, based on cutting-edge research and real-world experience by the world’s leading experiential practitioners. I combine this with classic techniques such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Accpetance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Somatic Experiencing (SE). Applying these tandem techniques in the counseling setting helps my clients attain tangible and life-altering changes.
I believe everyone brings the power for growth and change into the counseling setting. My job is simply to help you harness that power and be a guide through your desired change process. My practice is ethically guided by the ACA Code of Ethics. My primary concern is your welfare and to ensure that you are treated with respect and dignity (Code A.1.a. ACA Code of Ethics, 2014).
I am adept at working with various religious backgrounds, cultural backgrounds, and sexual orientations. Additionally, based on my own experiences I am particularly sensitive and skilled in tailoring counseling methods to the unique concerns for those struggling with addiction, victims of abuse, depression, anxiety, and trauma.
